JENNINGS DIES OF LUNG CANCER

The Canadian-born anchorman was 67. Four months ago, he left "World News Tonight" to fight the cancer.

We never had the pleasure of meeting the man. Our loss. But we admired his work, his use of language, his urbane cool.

Those who could never be so cool will now feel free to take potshots at a dead man. Their actions will define them.
