SPRINGFIELD CARDINALS CLOSE OUT FIRST SEASON

With a loss, dammit, but at least the team finished .500 -- and cemented its rep as a solid draw in the 'burg.

Sunday's 18-9 blow-out at the hands of the Arkansas Travelers was the 40th sell-out of the season. According to the team, the Cards drew 526,561 fans, the ninth highest total in Texas League history.

We made it out to a few games this season, including a win on Saturday night. Nice time, great venue, decent ball. Our only fly: We wished for some Veeck-like promotions. Maybe next year.

Oh it was a painful game to watch. 18-9. Ouch!

Saturday night was great though. Did you see the fan reach out the window and catch a foul ball with one hand?

What will we do with ourselves until April?
