The new, zippy "Anderson Cooper 360" debuted Monday night on CNN as the 9 p.m. Central time replacement for "NewsNight," the much better Aaron Brown show.
They're shooting Cooper in much tighter fashion now, his earnest face filling the screen as he yaks in a nasal voice. Cooper pledged from the top to do no shouting, and to "inform" viewers. Good to see he's got those two basics down.
Cooper also said something about the "new-car smell" of his show. We placed nostrils close to the screen and felt the tickle of static electricity; no smell of factory leather. There was, however, a faint whiff of putrefaction, most likely coming from CNN's storage room, where the network now keeps the remains of its dignity.
