LOCAL RESTAURANT BURNS
A Saturday morning fire caused significant damage to Nearly Famous, an iconic local eatery near Sunshine Street and Glenstone Avenue.
First reports say a portion of the roof was collapsed and there was extensive smoke damage.

Gee I hate to hear that. Nearly Famous goes back almost as far as I do...remembering when it was more of a Hippie place in the beginning, kind of patterned after the Munchies crowd only not quite so informal!
The fire at Nearly Famous is truly sad. But seeing someone mention Munchies brings back a world of wonderful (and sometimes stoned) memories of the world's greatest vegetable soup and buttermilk cake. I thought maybe I was the only person left who remembered that place. Yum.
Victor Hughes's Jambalaya was the best thing on the chalkboard menu at Munchies Unlimited that would get a person high. For those of you who never had the pleasure, Munchies was located where Well Fed Head Books is now.
So sad about Nearly Famous. Can't imagine that it WON'T be back.
Yeah, but I was always partial to the ORIGINAL Munchies located on Jefferson across from the Downtown Family Y. It was cozier. Ooooh very laid back. Once I finished lunch with a friend and the minute we got up to pay the check a couple of people who must have had a munchies attack jumped to our table and finished our leftovers. Anna, the star waitperson was cool with a mind of her own. Very nice, but if she wasn't in the mood she'd tell you to get your own coffee.
But the original original was a handful of Munchiers who had a traveling food cart on the Drury campus, or so says my long lost Thurston.

wow. I've had a bowl of tomato basil soup there with one or two really interesting people.
