HIGH-FLYING BLUNT

Rep. Roy Blunt knows how to travel, especially when it's on someone else's dime. The Center for Public Integrity on Monday issued a report on "Power Trips" taken by members of Congress.

In the period from January 2000 through June 2005, Blunt took more than $350,000 in travel from special interest groups. The Top 11 House travelers, according to the report:

Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio)
Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas)
Rep. J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.)
Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.)
Rep. Michael Oxley (R-Ohio)
Rep. W.J. Tauzin (R-La.)*
Rep. William Thomas (R-Calif.)
Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.)
Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska)

What a shock that the reigning majority whip would be among the top 11 traveling House members.

Well, take some solace in the fact that Blunt Version 1.0 didn't get the plum job that he wanted... poor guy. I'd feel sorry for him, but, uh... I got a thing. Golly, look at the time. I'll try to feel sorry for Roy after I meditate on some reading material and a roll of something soft...

Interesting list. However, it looks like the trips were not so much lobbyist sponsored trips as they were PAC's and political groups paying for his travel while campaigning for Republican candidates.
