MIGHTY WHITEY

Granny Geek was the first person we know who spied Sunday's News-Leader and realized that four white men were asked to deliver the final opinions on this week's coal-plant election. Holy lack of melanin, Batman!

This is right up there with the Springfield Business Journal list of 40 bright lights, all under the age of 40, all white.

Or Go Magazine's list of 20 Young Turks under the age of 30. White? You betcha.

They can also get a thorn. for a bobo. I don't know who is in that photo, but it is not Paul Redfearn.

Paul is a fine teacher, scientist, and good guy - even if he does drive you crazy on occasion. He was mayor once and the powers-that-be hated him because he actually told them what he thought .. .he was the one responsible for getting a lot of us as students interested in what was going on at CU ....

We note your whine about the whitey-dominated (and ultimately meaningless) op/ed page and list.

As for the Forty Under Forty list that strikes you as being inappropriately pale, exactly how many persons of color did YOU bother to nominate for that recognition?

Ah, I see. So the 40 under 40 list is nothing more than an advertising gimmick, like "Best in the Ozarks." Rather than SBJ actually selecting 40 worthy individuals based on some worthy criteria, they wait for others to "nominate" persons. Likely then select those 40 based on purchased advertising. Makes the list completely meaningless.

Also, anon, love the "blame the messenger" mentality.

If you had any idea what you were blathering about, you would know that the 40 Under 40 selection process is very different from the "Best in the Ozarks" promotion, which most certainly IS an advertising gimmick.

And I quote: "As for the Forty Under Forty list that strikes you as being inappropriately pale, exactly how many persons of color did YOU bother to nominate for that recognition?"

So how exactly is this different from the Best of lists? SBJ staff can't pick their own 40 under 40? Rather, they need others to "nominate" persons? Sounds a lot like an advertising gimmick to me. According to anonymous' statement, SBJ will only select persons nominated by outsiders. Why is that? How many businesses/organizations "nominating" persons also purchase advertising?

Ron's point, I believe, was that surely SBJ could find at least one non-white person to include in its list of "40 bright lights." What a lame excuse to blame others for not "nominating" non-whites. Obviously the list is an advertising gimmick. Or racist.

Doclarry, do us all a favor and stay on your meds. Your spastic outbursts of attempted defense on behalf of your prison bitch are an embarrassment.

anon: I'm no one's "prison bitch." Why don't you quit blogsquatting and do your typing elsewhere?

i agree with doclarry, all these lists are nothing more than advertizing gimmicks.

For that matter, springfield magazine, go magazine and even 417 magazine are nothing more than slick ads with drivel in between them.

Community Free Press,,,,now there's a magazine, if only they had some cajones to publish the reel nitty gritty, like this website!

Yeah! Down with whitey! *snicker*

Come on... sure, there are racist idiots all around, in all colors BTW... But is it really THAT big of a problem around here? The last lynching was a hundred years ago, and there'll never be another one. Slavery's dead, too. And there are enough anti-discrimination laws to choke every horse on the continent. What else can we do, pass more laws? Practice more reverse discri- er, I mean, affirmative action? File more lawsuits? Elect Jesse and Sharpton as co-presidents?

I'm not making light of this, not at heart. I know, there are racist morons all about, not just down in Aurora. I just don't think it's as bad as the Jacksons, Sharptons, and others, believe it to be.

The last anonymous poster is obviously a white male.

Don't tell me... blacks can't be racist. Right?

Seriously, these wounds of racism will never heal if we keep picking at the scabs*. And throwing money and laws at a problem is no solution, either.

* This applies to white supremacists AND Louis Farrakhan worshippers. It's bipartisan.
