Added at 4:35 p.m. In the Truth Stranger Than Fiction Department: Buttons was the question to an answer on "Jeopardy" on Thursday. The answer -- "His film credits include 'Hatari' and 'The Poseidon Adventure'" -- was in the ironic category, Better Red.

A recurring line of schtick for Red at Friars' Club roasts was to gig other presenters for their shortcomings and foibles, and then observe, "but they nevah got a dinnah." (Never got a dinner, unlike the roast's guest of honor.)
Not sure if Red evah got a dinnah of his own, but he surely earned a banquet for all of the laughter he gave the world while he was alive.
