BLUNT LIVES TO WHIP ANOTHER DAY

Rep. Roy Blunt on Friday was elected as minority whip by House Republicans, who repudiated a call from their radical base to jettison every GOP House leader in the wake of the Nov. 7 election.

The Associated Press reports:
Blunt won a new term as party whip, defeating Arizona Rep. John Shadegg on a vote of 137-57. "You know, it's not our job to defend business as usual, not our job to try to define the federal government in the biggest possible way," Blunt said.
The New York Times notes that Blunt and incoming Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio are ready to fight:
Mr. Blunt ... called on Republicans to challenge the Democrats. “We ought to be out there really with alternatives that define who they are and frankly give us a chance to once again get back to our roots,” he said.
"They" being the Democrats, of course. Why work with them on solutions when dissing is so much easier?

So much for your prediction yesterday that Blunt would be lucky to win today, eh?

Same old repugs ... now in the minority ... the more things change, the more things stay the same. So much for changing what cost them the election. If your in a hole, keep digging and maybe you will strike oil .....

I like the lyric from Chumbawamba, We won't rest until every nazi's dead.

Ah, yes. Why, indeed. After all, the Democrats when in minority worked so hard on solutions, NEVER dissing the Republicans.

Better that they DON'T work together. When they do, they pass bills, which costs us money and independence from government.

Well, yeah, but the republicans found a short cut. They didn't have to work with democrats to pass bills. All they had to do was own all 3 branches, develop an attitude that might makes right, set up the assembly line and roll it on out the door without ever looking to see what it was they were rolling out the door.

When the American people VOTE to give the Democrat party control of the House, the Senate AND the Presidency no doubt they'll be much more concerned about how the Republicans feeeeeeeeel than the Republicans were about their feeeeelings. Right?

Sour grapes.

Looks like Jacke M drinks the Michael Savage flavor
of Kool-Aid. Also to anon 405, Bunt's political skill of handing out mega dollars to fellow R's has a lot to do with him getting the votes he needed to remain whip, but Ron was right Thursday to say Blunt would need some luck Friday.

Oh? Did I say something with which you disagree? If so what and why?

Isn't the liberal touchtone "tolerance"?

Diss this you idiot.

Tolerance???

Like the tolerance shown in the past 6 years at letting the minority have *ANY* say in how the country is run??? Lotsa' luck. You dug the hole, now wallow in it.

In all my years as an airplane driver we were taught never, ever, ever, never, give you enemy a break. He will exploit it to kill you.

As of now, I don't think the repugs deserve any breaks. Depending on how they behave in the next year, I may relent. It appears however that they will do something stupid again, following the advice of the Pigman (Rush), and just sink deeper into the pit of mud they are in today.

Sorry, but I can't agree or disagree with such a hypothetical statement. I'm simply pointing out your parroting of Savage....

Interesting. I seldom listen to Savage and haven't heard him say the things I said, so would you like to address them or continue to pretend that I'm just a "kool-aid drinker," therefore not worthy of consideration?

Another interesting point. You'd like to see the Republicans work with the Democrats and help them provide solutions. You seem to be admonishing the Republicans for not considering the feelings and agenda of the Democrats when they were given an opportunity BY THE VOTERS to not only have a Republican in the WH but a majority of Republicans in the House and Senate? You ask for all this consideration and communication between the two parties so long as it benefits what the Democrats want to do in their agenda and yet you cannot even hold a simple, considerate discussion with me without calling me a "Savage kool-aid drinker," not worthy of any consideration.

This seems to be a contradictory attitude, in my humble opinion.

Jacke M: I think you are getting me mixed up with another Anon poster to this thread. I have made no other comments other than at 1213 and 849.
However, when you write:
"When the American people VOTE to give the Democrat party control of the House, the Senate AND the Presidency no doubt they'll be much more concerned about how the Republicans feeeeeeeeel than the Republicans were about their feeeeelings. Right?"
It's still hypothetical and seems to come from your feelings not fact. I'm not dissing what you imagine will take place in the future. Again, I simply can't comment on what hasn't happend...

I'd like to add there was some question about both of the votes in the last two presidential elections.

I have no idea which anonymous you are or are not...that's the beauty of posting anonymously, isn't it? One cannot be held accountable for what they post?

I was being sarcastic with my hypothetical question, however, there are examples from the past, are there not? Therefore, one could make certain assumptions based on the past if one cared to.

As far as questions regarding the last two presidential elections goes, I see no one but "fringies" who believe that Bush did not win the 2004 election and the 2000 election was decided according to law. However, speaking of hypocritical behavior, every time the Dems LOSE in an election there are all sorts of charges of voter suppression, voter fraud and questions regarding election equipment, isn't it funny that on Nov. 7, 2006, when the Dems WON the House and the Senate we haven't heard a peep from them regarding voter suppression, voter fraud and faulty election equipment?

I congratulate the Dems for their win on Nov. 7. I will continue to be watching how they "serve," just as I watched how the Republicans "served."

We need gridlock. I hope the Dems throw every tree in the Repubs' path that they can chop down from the forest. Show America they're too far apart TO work together.
