The film director was 81. He made "M-A-S-H," "Nashville," "Short Cuts," "Prêt-à-Porter" and "Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean." He also directed "Popeye," but now that he's dead, we forgive him.

"A Prarie Home Companion" was a fine film for all dems and NPR lovers and quite a piece of forshadowing.
Wow, first Michael Richards' career and now Robert Altman...who's going to be third?
My faves McCabe and Mrs Miller-dated now but great stuff in the '60's (Julie Christie and Warren Beatty). Then The Wedding in the '70's with a zillion stars and just as many mini-plots-Lillian Gish, Mia Farrow, Carol Burnett and Pat McCormick getting sweet on each other, Howard Duff, Desi Arnaz jr.
We can only hope number three will be Alec Baldwin.
He was a crotchety, America-hater, who's best work was far behind him. Good riddance.
