RUMSFELD RESIGNS

The latest casuality in the midterm elections. Just breaking on The Associated Press.

This is a surprisingly tone-deaf side of the Bush Administration. Just last week President Bush reaffirmed his support of Rumsfeld and said he would stay on through the end of Bush's term. Now, in his news conference, Bush admits the change was already being planned when he misled reporters. Had Bush been able to get out the word that Rumsfeld was on his way out, the midterm elections outcome could have been much different -- and much better -- for the GOP.

Wow, is this good or bad?

I find this fascinating. One can't help but wonder if Rummy had resigned prior to the elections if it would have made any differenc. Likely not much of one, but still it truly is an interesting turn of events.

Oh, please. This is so damage control; head's are rolling. Too great. The republicans will do whatever they can to reverse the damage. Too late.

Bush v. Clinton in '08? I think the Clinton's had it planned all along. Bush, et al, escalated the agenda. Not that dems should get a big head ...

I COMPLETELY agree... had Bush and Rummy done a Mea Culpa last week...

it could've changed some hearts and minds!

What were they thinking?

Oh, that's right...they can do no wrong. Unless the Dems call take them to task.

Jeb, of course. We'll have to shore him up for the election. And which Clinton?

Robert Gates .... CIA political hack that was up to his eyeballs in Iran-Contra... protoge of William Casey ...

Same poo - different pile ....

Bush did the right thing for the war and for the country on this one. If he had done it in the last two weeks the dems would have cried "foul, foul he only did it for political reasons!"

This way the dems have to fein excitment and will not fight the nominee.

Sorry Senior Stone I think your call of "hackery" is a little shallow. I mean what does a guy with a picture like yours know about this guy. Plus, Iran-Contra was a long time ago.
Everyone knows that what happened in the eighties, stays in the eighties.

I tracked Mr. Rumsfeld down for an exclusive interview. Some surprising responses.

Not even the American electorate, dumb as it can be at times, would fall for a third kiss from a Bushie.

Jeb won't survive the New England primaries. Hillary will be pummeled early, too, and a deal will be brokered for her to bow out gracefully.

Look for McCain versus Obama in '08.

Obama wins in a landslide.

You read it here first.

Not only would it be nearly impossible to elect a woman president (not to mention a Clinton), electing an African American president, well, it's just not going to happen. And when it does, it will be a republican. It would be just like the dems to put up a candidate that can't possibly win. And they have the momentum! Don't screw it up!

Hate to break it to you, but McCain is one- one- of the reasons the GOP lost this week. McCain is NO conservative and Obama would not win in a landslide. He lacks one key ingredient. Experience.

As a brusied and battered member of the GOP, I'd like to see a Gingrich/Romney ticket. That one would be a "dream-team" and a hard one to beat. It would satisfy the conservative base and would appeal to some conservative dems/liberal repubs who liked Romney.
