CHRIS BENOIT, 40

The professional wrestler was found dead on Monday, near the bodies of his wife and 7-year-old son.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
Investigators believe the 40-year-old Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, and 7-year-old son, Daniel, over the weekend, then himself on Monday. The bodies were found in three rooms.

"The details, when they come out," said Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard, "are going to prove a little bizarre."

World Wrestling Entertainment said on its Web site that it asked authorities to check on Benoit and his family after being alerted by friends who received "several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning."

Deputies checking on the family at the behest of Benoit's employer discovered the bodies on Monday afternoon at their home on Green Meadow Lane.
More than a little bizarre. And tragic.

Double murder-suicide is the latest theory authorities are going with.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Benoit killed his family over the weekend then took his own life Monday.

There's a lot I could write on this subject: Benoit's excellence in the ring, deaths in pro wrestling, Vince McMahon's failure to get that you can't run fake death angles because stuff like this happens.

This image was taken a little more than three years ago. Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero -- two guys who were told by promoters and larger men they would never make because of their size -- stood tall at the end of the biggest money event (at the time) ever. Now they're both dead.
