We all feel lucky to have known and worked with Don and we have been honored to carry on his legacy as an original and truly legendary figure in the worlds of both Television and Science Education. He has been inspirational and influential in so many ways and on so many lives and we are comforted in the fact that his ground breaking work and legacy will continue to inspire many more people for years to come.

MR. WIZARD, 89
Don Herbert was his name, and he was a month shy of his 90th birthday. He died Tuesday of cancer. According to his web site:

Don Herbert was one of the cornerstone's of EARLY Nickelodeon programming.
He was on every afternoon and as the network grew, re-runs of his show were relegated to early morning timeslots.
He inspired both me and my dad's love of science.
We will miss him.
He made science fun.
And now, so many mirror what Mr. Wizard did... more kids know and love science.
Like me.

I know this may sound hokey, but the "Mr. Wizard" program, which I watched faithfully as a kid in the 1950s, sparked (no pun intended) a lifelong interest in science that has served me well in both my personal and professional lives. Thank you, Mr. Herbert, and godspeed.
It's nice to see people being able to enjoy the memory of someone who had no negatives. Thanks for the dry ice show Mr. Whiz that one blew my mind.
I too watched his show faithfully and, though I'm not at all in any field of science, thank him for everything he taught us about the world around us.
That said, could Mr. Wizard be the next victim of this conspiracy theory?
