Regular CHATTER addicts may have noticed a lapse in AM postings. There's a simple reason. The chief typist has accepted a post as senior producer of KSPR, the ABC affiliate in Springfield, Mo.
It's a cool gig. And don't worry. No obit for the blog.
Just some information for you. More posting this evening, after the video dust settles.

So that's why Springfield33.com looks so familiar all of a sudden... he he he. Too bad anonypants can't post there.
Blogger joins the MSM ... Noooooooooooooo!!!!
Congrats on the gig, Ron.

Congrats Ron... a really good move for the station.
Give em hell Ron. Show this community how real news is supposed to be reported.
Congrats, Ron! I'm sure you can bring 33's news up from the depths. Word of advise: Don't hire Rachel Aram! She has a dirty pirate hooker mouth!
I think the anonymouse is the same person that is over at my site accusing me of being Billy Long. Not that there is anything wrong with being Billy Long, it's just stupid that he keeps it up.
Very Cool.
Oh. My. God.
What an interesting development. Congratulations!
Red, It looks like I wrote "Oh. My. God.", as that's so something I would write. Didn't though. I won't say congratulations - only, when do I get a lunch date out of this?
I don't care if you post at 8 a.m. or 3 a.m. ... as long as you post.
Have a great day!
Congrats... This should be interesting!
Senior producer of NEWS? Factual, unemblelished, nonfiction NEWS? How you gonna manage that?
Way to go, dude. You get to work with all the hot chicks,
White Shadow
Congratulations Ron! I pray that it goes beyond your best dreams.
BTW, Ron, I threw a particular bone your way. Come by the casa and pick up your prize.
What role did you play in the canning of 2 male reporters at the station? Is the Joe Daues family replacing the current nighttime anchors?
Congratulations Ron! Being ignorant of anything involving the production of a TV news broadcast, my idea of what goes on is very glamorous. I hope it actually is.
It's more than just 2 people. At least 5 on-air got the plug pulled. Maybe more. Nice guys.
Do all the firings mean Ron will have to report and shoot to "produce" the newscast? And is he the "senior producer" simply because there are no others left on the payroll to be the "junior" producers?
Hey Des don't be typing anonymous as anonymouse or people WILL think I'm you. I only wish I had as much free time to post as you do. Heck I can't even get my name to come up in blue let alone have enough knowledge of the Internet to put a fine picture of myself up in costume as you do. John Stone said he met you at a bloggers meeting but he took it to the grave because I could never get it out of him. I do think I worked with you at KWTO and I think I know where you like to eat if I have the right guy???
Sorry, Billy. I meant to call THAT GUY anony-rat. Yeah, I met John and he passed from the scene a short time later. I think you have a good idea of my identity. Somebody keeps sending comments to my blog asking if I'm Billy Long.
Desdinova is a man? Geeezzz!
Whoa, Ron: You left a crucial piece of unfinished business.
What about Medialand?
You used to be a travel journalist to that magical place, but now they have assimilated you, branded you and made you a sworn-in citizen! You won't be able to give us the dish anymore!
I nominate the Snarling Marmot to be our Medialand correspondent. Reasoning on my blog.

Ron, you better not have had anything to do with the departure of Cara Connelly from KSPR's "partner" news operation at KYTV! I'll really miss her.
Cara's leaving? Where's she going?
I know Cara is taking a job in Ohio. Now, while we are on the subject, I AM NOT CARA CONNELLY. I AM ALSO NOT LAURIE PATTON (Really, Sniderman) I AM A MAN, I CAN PROVE IT (although the city of Springfield makes me have a permit for something that large).
Will you still give people an opportunity on the blog to slam the News-Leader? Or will you refrain out of professional courtesy? _ Anonymous
Thought you were protesting a bit too much there Des. Ok ok.
Make 33 number one---bring Tony Beason out of retirement!
Very Good Luck on your new adventure and remember it is about peoples lives---every story.
Way yo go Davis!

(listening to the roaring silence from Ron about the major bloodletting at KSPR)
Any opinions, Ronnie?
You won't be reading much here for a while that is critical of local mainstream media now that Ron is one of "them" again. But just wait. He'll be back. He always is.
Evidently there are several green anons envious of true journalists. KSPR needed to dump some dead weight. Like the reporter who helped himself to the City Council's lunch. The chatty cathies on the morning show can't tell a news story from a horse's ass, as they demonstrated every morning.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Try to make some sense. It's obvious from all these moves that KY3 is trying to sink KSPR, then fold up the newsroom all while telling the FCC they gave it the old college try.
5 bucks says KSPR news is dust by January 2009.
Anon 10:02: Ron is good, but is he that good? Running KSPR's news operation into the ground in a year and a half is a tall order.
Believe me, he'll have lots of help.
I heard Kyle Bosh is being pushed aside for Joe Dawes & his wife. Don't know how the Springfield Cardinals will launch hot dogs without them...
I want to hear the details on the reporter who ate the city council's food? What is that all about? Details! Details!
Rumor has it that KSPR will eventually go the way of the ABC affiliate in St. Louis...no news. And would anyone really miss it?
So, Anon 4:24. Do you work for KOLR or KSFX? Competition got you down?
I'm neither Anon 4:24, nor an employee of KOLR/KSFX, but, um, KSPR sucks ... hard. Even more/better than she of the dirty pirate hooker mouth.
Wow this media thing getting pretty wild---but lets be cool on this site please---to that end!
Police understaffed---tickets people for parking in their own driveway DA
We need more police and a crime lab!
Let's see...can KY3 make more $$$ by continuing to fund a perennial distant third place news operation and selling :30s, while diluting the flagship's audience, or by cutting all the newsroom overhead and running either syndicated sitcoms or infomercials? Use the pencil and calculators, people!!! This is corporate business.
Anon 9:08 is dead-on. Why else would they make so many crazy moves? Dear lord, Springfield is the most conservative market in the nation and they hired a lefty like Ron to produce? That in itself could be perceived as a suicidal move.
KY didn't get where they are by fostering competition. They are clearly greasing the skids (with KY?) to speed up SPR's news demise.
Vince, (oops, I mean Anon 2:48) find someplace else to leave your idiocy, please. KY3 isn't exactly in need of creating situations to increase their viewership or popularity. Catch a clue. Unlike certain radio shows, their are doing just fine thanks.
Anon 4:07: No argument. KY3 is doing fine. So why fund their own competition?
(bell of understanding rings)
What everyone writing about the demise of KSPR seems to forget is.. this is not new to the area. KOLR/KSFX are also a duopoly that is doing just fine working together, so much so there products are almost the same. For those who haven't figured this out yet the real goal of the merger is to attack them.. not KY. KY3 is a legacy station, they are going to pull huge ratings no matter what because everyone who loves them already does and will continue too. At the same time they are not really getting new viewers they just have always had a ton. What KSPR brings to their company is another option for people and another way for them to compete against KOLR/KSFX. Why would you shut the doors when you have a product that is already making money and with minimal investment can make more money. Owning a TV stations still is a license to print cash as seen by the surge of private equity firms buying up TV stations left and right. There is no reason to shut KSPR down, but there is a reason to blow it up and start over and use it to go after the viewers in the market who want to watch news... just not news the KY way.
Big flaw in the last post:
You say it was making money, BUT you also said to blow it up.
If it's making money, you are crazy to blow it up.
I think some of you people are frightened of something NEW or DIFFERENT. It's hard for old people and simple mindeds to accept change.
White Shadow

There is a big difference between making money and competing the in market... you keep the station because it's making money.. you blow it up to try and actually compete in the market and make a lot more money
