GIULIANI: 9/11 CHANGED GUN VIEWS

Nobody serves up a deeper dish of pander than Rudy Giuliani. He spoke Friday before the National Rifle Association and did plenty of puckering. Newsday reports:
Facing a group that he once likened to "extremists," Giuliani sought to temper his past strong support for national gun control laws by saying he could no longer support a lawsuit he filed as New York mayor in 2000, which was designed to hold gun-makers liable for gun violence.

Giuliani said "there have been subsequent intervening events -- Sept. 11 -- which casts somewhat of a different light on the Second Amendment and Second Amendment rights. It doesn't change the fundamental rights, but maybe it highlights the necessity for them more."

Giuliani has built his presidential campaign on convincing Republicans that his performance after the Sept. 11 attacks shows he is the strong leader America needs -- but it was the first time he had linked his personal views on gun control to the terror attacks.
Don't you know he served in 9/11?

Too bad Rudy isn't being sincere about gun rights. We have too many anti-freedom types as it is. All but one of the Republicans running now is qualified to be president, and as for the socialist monkeys over in the Democratic herd... feh.

2008 is going to wind up being a "choice" between two control freak bureaucrats.

Ron, you couldn't carry Rudy's water. I'm not his biggest fan, but I'd take him over the Socialists running under the Moveon banner any day.

Perhaps Ron cannot carry Rudy's water. For one, I am unaware of Ron's water-carrying capabilities. One thing is for sure, Rudy is incapable of carrying his own.

And on a side note, I thought it was Giuliani who was a socialist. Free Republic certainly thinks so.

if the infrastructure of new york had been destroyed like new orleans in 2005, then ghouliani would have been no better a nattering, incompetent putz than ray nagin. it's a helluva lot easier strutting around the street acting tough when the streets are intact. rudy will probably follow the example of our dear leader except that rudy will spend all his vacations going to yankee games like he did after 9-11.

phuck phred, mitt, ghouliani and the other repooplickin peckerwoods.

oh yeah. yuck the fankees:)

Rudy did excel during the time of the 9/11 attacks. Even if you dislike his politics you can't take away the fact he did do some great things.

Still, I get tired of him playing the 9/11 card to try and get elected. What you did on 9/11 will be considered but I'm hoping we don't have another 9/11 situation where you need to respond in kind.

FreeRepublic... the Bizzaro World version of DemocraticUnderground.

A pox on both houses listed above.

Jason, do tell. What great things did Rudy do during 9/11? How did he, in your words, "excel"? This isn't snark, I'm truly curious, for I've read this before. I cannot recall anything Rudy did that would lead to this conclusion, other than happening to be the mayor.

So please enlighten me.

ghouliani spent twice the amount of time at yankee games as he did at ground 0 the month after 9-11. consider not only ghouliani's actions during and after 9-11, but before as well. there were 8 years between the first and second wtc attacks. ghouliani even wanted to place the city's emergency command and control center in the wtc. the only things ghouliani accomplished in those 8 years were disneyfying times square, busting a few bums and whores. it's that kind of competence that will finish off doing to this country what our dear leader has started.
