BEARDED BEASON BEATS BASS IN BAND

Our spies at Bluesfest spotted former KY3 anchor Tony Beason and grabbed some scoop. Beason retired from the station and promptly pulled a Johnny Carson, staying clear of any media appearances.

What's he been doing? Playing bass in a band with his wife -- and giving the razor a rest. "He had a beard," our spies report. "A pretty good one, too." Nothing like ZZ Top, but certainly much more than a scrawny tangle.

Good for him.

Speaking of KY3, we hear the old on-air set has been gobbled up by City Utilities; the energy company will rehab the set and use it for their own communications projects.

One other local media note while we're at it. Our little post on the departure of News-Leader reporter Jenny Fillmer certainly struck a nerve, lanced a boil, released the hounds. Nearly 70 comments now grace the post, and man, it's good -- albeit bittersweet -- reading. Sweet because sometimes the media need tweaking. Bitter because several people from our era at the News-Leader still survive in that place, and in spite of the crap they endure, they try to thrive.

Got scoop on the local media? Drop us an e-mail and dish.

  1. Scoop I have for you.
Care not about the local media I do.
Find it odd I do the fascination there is with newspeople.
Watch or read the news for the NEWS does not anyone?

  2. Tony Beason and Jenny Filmer have one more journalist on their team...Ky3 Crime Reporter Laurie Patton is leaving after 8 years. She is an incredible force within our newsroom, and she will be deeploy missed. She's also my best friend...I've posted a link on my blog about her, if you want to drop a line..

Is that considered scoop? By the way, I love Tony B and Carrie. Her new CD is incredible. I listen to it all the time.

  3. I meant deeply. not Deeploy what ever that means.

By the way, LP's last day is Friday.

  4. Yeah ... it's good that drummers don't have to talk and try to pronounce Abu Garibe ... or any name in the phonebook ... I am having a brainfart and can't remember my foavorite Beason name pronounciation ... let's have a contest to remind me.

  5. I checked out Michelle's blog. In her profile she mentioned that her boyfriend is HOT. Isn't Michelle dating Jerry Jacob? I saw him this summer arm-in-arm with an Asian lady at a Springfield Cardinals game. She had on very large sunglasses so I was not sure on the identity. Anyone else know?

  6. Headline: Bearded Beason blunted beats big bass at Bluesfest.

    Chattering classes go boffo.

  7. For sure not JJ she's dating a really talented photographer named Jim VanDillen

  8. Michelle is HOT. I'll be her boyfriend.

  9. Laurie totally rocks, the station is going to be all the worse for it. Who is going to do real investigative work now? I know she was trained by Dennis Graves and she is really old school. The newer reporters just try to pass off consumer crap as 'investigation'.

  10. Um, WE DON'T ALL LOOK ALIKE!
    :)

My post was about Laurie, not my love life. Jerry's Asian girlfriend is way cute, smart, funny, and Asian, and I am not his girlfriend.

  11. And then chater turned into high school.

  12. Isn't JJ dating Norma Champion?

  13. Some one seems a bit sensitive about their appearance ...

  14. Is the Chatter typist still screening this stuff?

  15. Wait, why was Tony Beason hitting a fish?

    ReplyDelete
  16. It's the Ozarks, honey...everyone thinks all Asians look alike. We're all dumb rednecks. I don't think you're being sensitive about your apprearance.

  17. That's what all the kids are doing nowadays.

  18. Whoa, ya'll. According to V.D.J. this morning, it's "Orientals".

  19. All I said was that Jerry was "with an Asian lady." I thought I was being nice with that describtion. I could have provided other specifics in regard to shape, size., etc ...

I didn't say "you all" look alike. I saw them front 25 yards away and it was pretty quick. Plus, it was a little hard to see much of her face with the large sunglasses.

I was just asking ... those inner office/media relationships can be tricky.

  20. 1) Who's VDJ?
    2) Is this person that ignorant?
    3) I'm embarassed sometimes to live here.

    ReplyDelete
  21. VDJ is a jackass right wing hack on hate talk 104.1, yes he is that ignorant. Is he now waging war against orient-o-facism. The unrelenting onslaught of radical dinnerware?

  22. Back to Laurie
I know for a fact the city of Springfield would have covered up the missing money (as in insider)but, she found out about it. They called in a the press girl on her day off to lessen the impact. How scary is that? Now she's leaving and the city and all of the cronies will basically have their way. We should just call it Finneyville now and get it over with.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Who's going to take over the crime beat now?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anon 436: Finneyville? Who the hell is Finney? Oh, you must mean Tom Finnie, the retired city manager. Funny, but you and VD(J) suffer from the same inability to spell Finnie's last name. Hmmm...

Your sexism is showing, too. "Press girl," eh?

  25. Is the Chatter typist still screening this stuff?

MIT: Screening? I'm still trying to get through the comments on the Jenny Fillmer post.

  26. Want to talk about NEWS does anyone?
Find interesting this story I do:

Or, spend more time exchanging anchor dating gossip we could.

    Care not anymore do I.

  28. So who's Lisa Myers dating?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I heard she's dating Tony Beason, or a large mouth bass.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Better a large mouth bass than a barge mouth lass.........

    ReplyDelete
  31. I like Finnieville. I would actually love to put up a statue in city plaza of Tom. At the the base it would read..."Open Government is good Government" to be followed by
Salus populi suprema lex esto" Although we should have someone spell check that last part.
    Someone get the state seal.

  32. But I don't like Ex Lax in my Pesto.

  33. Does PETA know about the beared Beason beating a bass? Has anyone asked Norma Champion about abusing fish for fun?

Oh, I did see Ethan Forhetz and Sara Sheffield holding hands as they exited Target one Friday night not too long ago...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Are you sure that wasn't Ethan and some other "white lady," maybe Norma Champion?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Not to state the obvious but, shouldn't we be concerned when a good, solid journalist leaves a job in our community? Not who they're dating.

P.S. I heard Laurie's husband is a middle school teacher not that that is NEARLY as important as a news reader.

    ReplyDelete
  36. What in the world is going on???

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anon 216: Ask Norma Champion about anything, you won't get an answer. She lets the puppets do all the talking and thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  38. There is....another...Sky...walker.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Let me clear all of this up.

    1) Jerry Jacobs in not dating Michelle Sherwood. I've seen Jerry's girlfriend and she looks nothing like Michelle Sherwood.
2)Ethan Forhetz IS NOT dating Sara Sheffield. He is also NOT dating Aunt Norma or Skinny or Rusty. However, he DOES look like Gordon Tracy of the Thunderbirds. Check it out:

  40. Well, they may not be dating but I watch KY3 everyday- I know who they are and they were definately together. And trust me, if Norma Champion was wearing the dress Sheffield was the night I saw them, I would still be blind!

  41. You guys are totally wrong. Not only are sara and ethan dating...they've been engaged for quite some time. Wedding set for April.

  50. We are looking for Technology Companies who might like to locate to Missouri and also any companies wanting to put some funding into our efforts. I recently spoke at two Springfield City Council meetings about the possibility of establishing and developing a technology park. This project could bring more and better business and job opportunities for all of southwest Missouri. That is why we want people from across the area to consider joining the effort. To help or learn more please go to: www.technologypark2006.org and watch for updates that are coming.

This project could bring benefits to the nearly half million people in southwest Missouri and more business and revenues to the state in general.

We must work to compete against other states and nations for the jobs of the future. These technology parks allow incubators which allow for start up companies and they also create new products and processes for making life easier for people. I also think we need to include all the colleges in the area who may want to be part of it. College of the Ozarks, Drury, Evangel, MSU, OTC and others.
    Sincerely,
