THE PHOTO HEARD 'ROUND THE WORLD

Thirty-nine years ago Thursday, Eddie Adams took this picture for The Associated Press.

The cutline was simple: General Nguyen Ngoc Loan executing a Viet Cong prisoner in Saigon. Its impact was profound.

  1. And guess who provided Loan shelter and comfort for the rest of his life rather than prosecuting him for a cold blooded murder?

He ran a prosperous liquor store in LA for many years. With any luck he is turning slowly on a spit in hell now.

  2. Hmmmm...

I think this Wikipedia link is probably a little more appropriate. With a photo that powerful it is important to put it in context.

  3. As one who is interested in photojournalism, I note that when Adams was killed the doggies in the field mourned her death as one of their own.

  4. Well, now that I look at the Wiki entry ... I remember that it wasn't Adams that was killed on the battlefield, it was the woman photojournalist with a similar name?

And it was Ky -- who was the totally corrupt head of the V AF who had the booze store in LA. Not Loan.
