A 53-year-old German woman who was driving her dead mother across country to save on mortuary transportation costs was fined by police for disturbing a dead person's peace.
"You're not allowed to transport dead people in your private car," said Ralf Schomisch, police spokesman in Koblenz, where the car was found after a tip-off from a mortuary.
"The corpse was on the back seat without a seat belt, which in this case didn't really matter. But it was covered up with clothing. It is a misdemeanour."

And now for a really scammy story ... when I was about 15 - taking flying lessons, the guy who was my instructor most of the time took a brand new Cessna Skymaster (one of the first ones) down to Fayetteville to pick up a body ... I begged a ride and got my first hours of multi-engine time on the flight down.
He folded down the front seat and laid the body down -- it was clad only in a paper shroud. OK, no big deal so far. He drove and I sat behind him. What I didn't think of - and I am convinced he knew in advance -- was that as he climbed to altitude the air in the chest would expand ... until the moment there was this really loud sigh comming from the seat next to me.
I about went out the window ...
I am having the following image run through my head: Clark Griswald tying the annoying aunt onto the top of the car in the rain.
I followed the dead in highschool, the were arresting people there too...
