FOOT-IN-MOUTH CHARLIE

Charlie Denison, the formable state representative, must not want another term in office. A Monday story in the News-Leader about the primary race between Denison and GOP challenger David Dunn includes a couple of priceless Denisonisms.

According to writer Cory de Vera:
Denison admits attending opening day at the new Busch Stadium in April to watch the Springfield Cardinals play, but said the votes he missed were on the consent agenda ...

Dunn pledges also to have monthly meetings with constituents. Denison said he also tried that, but so few showed up he committed himself to making himself accessible in other ways, such as attending meetings of civic organizations like the Rotary Club ...
(Note de Vera's use of the loaded word "admits." Wouldn't "acknowledges" work just as well?)

But Denison doesn't need loaded words to look foolish. Asked about taking money from lobbyists, Denison said:
"Do I take some lobbyist money? You betcha. Because there is a world of information that comes from lobbyists. When we term-limited, we cut ourselves off from information about what happened 10 years ago. You get that from lobbyists, and if you are going to get it straight you don't talk to just one, you talk to both sides."
Sorry, Charlie. Neither tastes good, nor in good taste.

Since the disabled, the poor and children have no lobbyist to buy Denison's dinner their side must never gets explained to Charlie. Perhaps that is why Denison voted for all of the Boy Governor's medicaid cuts. Of course so did every other Republican in the area except for Marsh who was absent. Can any of them think for themselves?

Gee Charlie I bet those lobbyists all tell you the truth about the past history of legislation instead of just telling you what they want you to know or believe. How nice of them.

Denison just can't help but step on it! It's got to be soar by now! What about him crowing to the reporter about how he was responsible for the name change at MSU???? According to those who actually were responsbible for that happening, Denison was more of a hindrance than anything. "He was in the way" was how one area rep put it. Please tell Charlie it's time to stop! Vote for David Dunn on August 8th!

I hear Denison and Champion almost doomed the name change bill by trying to play roles beyond their ability. (Like anything that required independant or spontaneous thought) Lampe, Marsh, Senator Goodman and the Governor's office passed the bill.

I've talked to both B.J. Marsh and another local Representative at length about the SMS/MSU name change. Marsh just laughed the first time I read Denison's claim that he was responsible for the necessary votes; the other State Representative told me that Charlie nearly screwed the deal up by making deals and seeking votes outside of channels. His interferance nearly cost us the name change.

Yet, he goes blissfully along, believing his own stories. Reminds me of a fellow from the 1930s who said that if you tell a lie enough times, people will start to believe it.

SOAR? If he stepped on it, it would be sore! Now if he was on Viagra it would soar!

It's a good thing Charlie didn't use soar for sore or potatoe for potato.

It appears that I, too, stepped on it. Reading too many mispelled Charlie mailers.
