GOP FLYAROUND BACK ON FOR MONDAY

Last month some Missouri House Republicans scheduled -- and then promptly scuttled -- a series of news conferences to tout their plan to reform Missouri's fee offices, the place where people go to get their vehicle licenses renewed.

The flyaround was killed on orders of Gov. Matt Blunt, who was angered by the idea of Republicans not in lockstep with his schemes (two of Springfield's fee offices are run by the family of a fundraiser for Rep. Roy Blunt, the governor's father).

House Republicans said at the time that they were going to have "negotiations" with the governor. Come Monday, we'll find out how much hide was taken off the backsides of those House members. Fired Up Missouri reports the news conferences are back on track for Monday, July 10.

When these fee offices were announced way back when, it didn't take an OTC graduate to figure out what was not only going to happen, but would happen.

The Governor has many faults, this being one of them, but I'd take 100 more just like him than another term of Governor Boob Holden.

Will Norma Champion have a clue this time?

How do we find out where & when?

The conference is at the Library Center on North Kansas at 2:30 Monday.

The Governor's puppet Norma Champion must be fuming. House Republicans are endorsing the fee agent reform plan of her opponent Democrat Doug Harpool.

This has got to be embarassing to Champion. The Republican House members are just furthering Harpool's reputation as an effective leader in the battle for ethics reform.

It will be difficult to explain to voters why she (Champion) told KY3 she didn't know enough about the issue to have a position or comment on Harpool's fee agent patronage reform proposal and didn't have a plan of her own. Apparantly these House members were able to learn enough about the issue.

Not to mention the fact that the Senate voted on Fee Agent Reform proposals in May. Apparantly she failed to notice.
Her vote against fee agent reform was obviously based on careful analysis. Or perhaps the Governor's directions....

So... only government can run DMVs? Is this an offshoot of Daschle's silly "you can't professionalize unless you federalize" statement?

After reading a few airport-security bad experience stories, I wonder who thought that was such a good idea, other than to pad the fedgov employee rolls...

I don't know if only government can run DMV's but the private concern occupying the former DMV in the state office building isn't living up to it's predecessor.

The offices are less well lit, wait times have increased, less seating for those that have to wait, and the clerks are less knowledgeable and professional. And, aren't we paying a buck or two more for the transactions?

I can't wait for the day when public schools are privatized and the kiddies can start the day with a rousing rendition of the Wal-Mart theme song.

Well, the fedgov doesn't need to be in charge of education, now that you mention it, Marcus... although I doubt Wal-Mart even has a theme song. I'll ask next time I go there for stuff.

Well...if we're going to privatize (corporatize) the schools I'd be on board for having Bernie Ebers as CEO. After all, those aren't young minds we're trying to mold. They're potential revenue generation streams.

We shouldn't be trying to "mold" anyone's mind... just teach 'em the basics. Leave ideologies at the door, if possible. It's not the place of teachers to say "Bush sucks" OR "[insert future Democrat presidential candidate] sucks", not in gov't-run school. Not on our dime.
