GOOD RIDDANCE, RICK SANTORUM

The U.S. senator from Pennsylvania lost his reelection bid last month, in part because of his infamous bursts of verbal insanity about man-on-dog sex.

The radical right still loves Rick Santorum, however. He did not disappoint them on Wednesday when he voted against the nomination of Robert Gates to be the nation's defense secretary.

According to this Washington Post story:
Two Bush allies, Sens. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., and Jim Bunning, R-Ky., voted against Gates, citing his criticism of the war and his view that the U.S. should engage Iran as part of a solution.

"Mr. Gates has repeatedly criticized our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan without providing any viable solutions to the problems our troops currently face," Bunning said. "We need a secretary of defense to think forward with solutions and not backward on history we cannot change."

Santorum mocked the idea of engaging dictators and talked at length of the evils of "radical Islamic fascism." When it comes to reaching out to Iran to discuss the security of Iraq, Santorum said of Gates, "I think he is in error."
Santorum still hopes to rise from the ashes of his political career and become the leader of the theocons. Beware.

Santorum isn't wrong when he says we should not talk with Iran. Iran isn't part of the solution, they're part of the problem.

I can't understand how the left thinks you can negotiate with people that want to kill you. Iran wants nothing more that to destablize Iraq even further and the same can be said for Syria.

Even an old coot like Robert Byrd realizes this. Why do you think he asked that of Gates in the hearing? Byrd wanted to know if he supported going after Iraq and Syria.

This study group, while the left bathes itself in their findings that cast blame on Bush, has done great harm to the Constitutional powers of the presidency as a whole. Will future presidents still be considered commander-in-chief or will that be left to the next study group.

This is war and you can't run the show like a Madison Avenue ad agency with your hands on a focus group study.

Short of nuking the country into a parking lot, there is no military way to end the unrest in Iraq.

Iran hates us, true. But the Iranians don't want us to leave Iraq, because then they'd have to pick sides in the sectarian violence that already is occurring and certainly would escalate in the vacuum left after our departure.

So talking to Iran with the aim of bringing some sort of "peace" to Iraq isn't such a bad idea of we first make it clear that we're packing up to come home soon.

Number 3 says it best. If you don't believe her look up the definition at the Village Voice.

Hey anon 9:51 so sorry about the election. FYI Iran does not want to kill us. There are some jerks in charge but the Iranian people are not our enemies. So if it's all right with you let's try and make the Middle-East better instead of the wreck it all course you guys were on.
Thanks.
Also, last time I checked Jim Baker wasn't a part of the"left"
Look it up.

I wonder which shelf in the house Icky-Ricky will keep the photo of his dead fetus-baby on now that he can't show it off, along with the autographed baseball that is alongside it, to visiting constituents.

Man-o-man. Bobicus Tomatocus (anon @ 9:51 AM) leaves mental pollution wherever he goes. ~~ GIGO ~~

People tend to overlook the fact that Iran was helping us in The War Against Terror (TWAT), post 9-11, until Bush made his infamous "Axis of Evil" Speech. In other words, Iran was an ally until we stirred the pot in the Middle East.

The old saw, "keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer," might have been a better approach to our Iran policy.

To add to anon @ 11:20's comment, the Saudis (Sunni majority) have been making noises about jumping into the Iraqi mess, along with the Iranians (Shiite majority) trying to intrude in on the fun. Somehow, I don't see dear leader as having the ability to put the lid back on Pandora's box.

Anon 2:13, your "TWAT" comment clearly demonstrates that to cap off your mouth would far out weigh any "pollution" I might leave behind.

And to Anon 1:21, if you don't think the Iranian government doesn't want us dead, then I feel sorry for you. Just earlier this week Ahmadinejad said that the West (that's us, in case you might be confused) and its people should be eliminated from the earth. And you honestly sit there and say that Iran isn't the enemy? How do you think Israel sees Iran?

I guess, though, you might as well suck up to them. Arabic birth rates are at such heights that by 2050 they'll occupy the Middle East and damn near all of Europe. Birth rates among Europeans are well below sustainable levels that simply trhough attrition, the Muslims win. And no, anon 2:13, this no pollution. It's fact. Now, I know liberals don't like facts because it points to the truth, but.....

You guys may soon have things your way. Hell, Howard Dean is in Europe today mending fences with European Socialists. Well, give him credit, birds of a feather flock together.

Arabic birth rates are at such heights that by 2050 they'll occupy the Middle East....

Who knew? In my wildest dreams I never could have conceived that in a mere 45 years the ME will be overrun by Arabs. What next? Will South America be taken over by Hispanics.

Parting shot. Does that "cap off your mouth" comment mean that you're willing to spring for some of that expense dental work I need to have done. Or, is it a feeble attempt at a condescending tone?

The Bush administration had clear opportunities in the past to talk with Iran at their invitation before all the bad rhetoric started. Bush declined the opportunity because it's not Chaney's goal to sit at the table. The goal is Mid East domination.
