AN OBSCENITY OF ITS OWN

A grand jury in Wyandotte County, Kan., has indicted three Kansas City-area businesses on obscenity charges. The adult-entertainment industry says Philip Cosby is to blame.

According to AVN:
Cosby heads the Kansas City chapter of the National Coalition for the Protection of Children and Families (NCPCF). Earlier this year, he organized a petition drive calling for grand jury investigations of 32 adult businesses in Kansas and Missouri for promotion of obscenity. Enlisting the help of church leaders and community activists, Cosby's group delivered the petitions to six county courthouses in May.
Guys like Cosby are the scariest culture warriors.

So the man believes those kinds of businesses are obscene and he follows the law in getting them investigated and shut down. It's no different than other groups doing the same thing.

I always want to delve into the personal lives of people like Phillip Cosby.

I tend to think that if he fighting that fervently against the sex industry publicly, then he's probably fighting it in his private life too.

I could be wrong- I certainly don't know the guy- but, I bet if we peeled the layers of his personal life back we'd see a clear reason for this particular work.

What other groups doing what same thing? I have trouble coming up with an example that doesn't involve someone feeling that they need to take their morals out on someone else in a way that limits the other person's freedom, and it is usually a scary conservative dude like Cosby.

Reading the AVN article it appears to be that Mr Cosby is not very effective since not one onthe 32 adult stores were indicted.

I'm no psychologist, but I do think that those people who are obsessed with anything have a piece of that in themselves. Fundamentalists aren't confined to religion and right wing politics. It's a circle, not a straight line and if you go far enough in one direction you end up arriving at what you hate. It's there in science, the left, the right, environmentalism, feminism, every place that has a spectrum. Watch out for those who exist at either end. It's ok to over generalize about certain groups with words that would immediately be identified as bigotry if said about another. Test yourself the next time you say "men are...," or "right wing Christians are..," or any other generalization and substitute. "Blacks are...," or "Jews are..." If you would be ashamed to be caught saying that in public or even thinking it at home in the dark (and you should be), you should probably rethink and rephrase.
