An excerpt from the interview:
Couric: And when it comes to establishing your worldview, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?
Palin: I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.
Couric: What, specifically?
Palin: Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years.
Couric: Can you name a few?
Palin: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news, too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where it's kind of suggested, "Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C., may be thinking when you live up there in Alaska?" Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.
Oh, she's also pro-contraception, and says it doesn't matter what causes global warming, because "it's real; we need to do something about it." Something for everyone to criticize.

Jimmy Kimmel had the clip of this exchange on his show Tuesday night. Even more sad seeing it on the small screen. God help us all if she is the one who has to deal with folks like her neighbor Vlad Putin.
OK, you people poke fun at Sarah Palin and do your best to "dumb" her down....just like you did with President Bush.
But why don't you point out the stupid comments by Obama, like his comment having visited all 57 states. Or Biden saying that FDR went on TV when the Stock Market crashed in 1929.
Katie Couric will toss up the "gotcha" questions because her ratings continue to tank.
And I disagree with Palin on Global Warming. It isn't real. It's bullshit.
There is a huge, huge difference between Obama's minor slip of saying "fifty" instead of "forty" and Palin's repeating pattern of gibberish. Her answer here shows two things - a lack of understanding and perhaps a lack of confidence.
Palin doesn't seem to understand that different publications often provide different worldviews and schools of thought. That's what Couric was trying to get at. But Palin, apparently rattled by everyone talking about how she doesn't know jack, seemed to think Couric was questioning whether she reads the news at all!
So she got defensive and blundered the answers. And I am giving her the benefit of the doubt here and assuming she DOES read some. If she doesn't, well, we have a guy like that now, don't we?
It could be a sign of rattled confidence, which is not what Republicans want going into the debate Thursday...
"Us people" don't need to poke fun at Caribou Barbie, Anon 10:26.
She's doing a fine job of doing that, all by her sad self.
Apparently the people who said she was lacking in smarts knew what they were talking about.
Obama seems to need a teleprompter to speak while Palin it appears needs to have at least a speech written for her so that she can read it before going on the air.
"What newspapers or magazines do you read" is a gotcha question? You are either dumbing yourself down anon 10:26, or you are already down, way down.
"And I disagree with Palin on Global Warming. It isn't real. It's bullshit." Wake up!!! The Republican's mascot should be an Osterich because they majority of them have their heads in the sand.
(It would have been a lie) But all Palin had to say was The Wall Street Journal for business, The Economist for International Affairs and her local paper for news on her community. Specific and would have appeased Couric. Her inability to answer even the most mundane questions is very telling.
One question Couric should of asked is why did she attend 6 different colleges? That is a tell tale sign of emotional instability, drama and lack of focus, just the type of character we want in a VP candidate...
If McCain is elected President, Palin is one 72 year old heart beat away from the Presidency. She is barely capable of being a pre-school teacher so how would she be able to handle national security issues, the economy and the environment??
It's baffling that so many people believe in her. It's very sad and very dangerous....
I think alot of this is not letting Palin be herself, and trying to over immerse on issues in a short period of time. I also think it was a major mistake to offer her up to the mainstream media like this. If she is going to do interviews, have the ground rules so that the media can't edit over an extended period of time. Tell the media you can do the interview but you have to use it within 24 hours.
If republicans are *ostriches* with their head in the sand about "global warming" then democrats must be *jackasses* for believing in a computer generated model based on human variables that have not been proven in any extent by the majority of scientist.
Follow the government funding aspect and you'll see why "global warming" has become a buzzword for the (m)asses on the lunatic fringe.
It's interesting to read how liberal democrats give Joe Biden a pass on his verbal strokes, but crucify Palin on her gaffes.
If Sarah Palin had asked a wheelchair bound MO State Senator, as Joe Biden did at a rally in Columbia to "stand up Chuck and let them see you," liberals and the press would've wet their pants over the screw-up. Instead, nothing.
If Sarah Palin had said that Franklin Roosevelt went on TV in 1929, the left would've gone ape to paint her as an idiot, but Biden gets a pass.
If you're concerned about Palin not being ready to be president, look at the top of your ticket. A Community Organizer does not a Jesus make. It's laughable that a guy who has spent 143 business days in the US Senate is ready to be the 44th President of the United States.
I've seen the wheel chair comment on plenty of news outlets and late night variety shows since the day it happened. I just read about it and other Biden gaffes (including the 1929 TV reference) in today's edition of USA Today and, in a recent Associated Press report. You are full of shit in saying "Biden gets a pass" and using the word "nothing" to describe coverage of the wheel chair coment. There's been plenty written and broadcast that's negative of Biden. You are either un-informed, a liar, or an ill-informed lemming. Which is it?
Hey mister American Patriot, just how is it that you heard of these things Biden did? Were you in Columbia at that rally? Where you standing in the crowd when Biden mistakenly suggested TV was the medium in 1929? Were you in the helicopter with Biden when it was "forced down"? (by snow it turns out) My guess is that YOU HEARD ABOUT IT THROUGH THE MEDIA. Just a guess......
American Patriot-
Once again, there's a difference between the two. Gaffes by both candidates were widely reported in the media. As others have pointed out, how else did we hear about Biden's latest goofs?
The difference is whether or not these gaffes have traction with the public. Clearly the Palin mistakes are getting more mileage because people by and large think less of her. Unfair, maybe, but that's life.
You're correct in saying those on the left are making a big deal out her mistakes, but clearly the majority of Americans are laughing with them, as indicated by her polling numbers. Politics is all about perception.
God help us if the votes of the undereducated in the US have their say.
An aptitude test should be given to every voter and the results of that test scored before issuing a ballot. If said person can't answer 10 out of 15 simple questions about our government then they should NOT be given a ballot.
Of course this test would need to change with every passing election to prevent individuals to becoming accustomed to the same questions.
I would bet about only 10% of the population of Springfield could name half of our city council members, less than that could tell you anything of which is contained in the city charter.
If you believe the media treats Biden as it does Palin then you must be part of the "undereducated" that anon 1:14 refers to.
And, anon 7:47, you need some anger management classes before you hurt someone or hurt your candidate.
None of the people in contention for the top seats in the country are brain surgeons. They are politicians. they don't need to be able to think on their own, they have advisors to research and provide them with the answers, just like every president and politician before them.
McCain is hellbent on the job because he believes it's his turn after everything been thru. He may be a "maverick" but he's still a Bush buddy, stuck on the same stiff policies and crony ties. Obama wants it because it would be historic, not because he's especially talented at solving world problems. He may have been influential at the state level, but he's still just a Senator with short time on his resume. They all live in an artificial world of sound bites and media profiles.
We are all screwed.
And for the record, do you believe that the fumes coming out of your car have no effect on the air we breathe? That the bad stuff "just floats away" and doesn't accumulate anywhere? The environment is a closed system. The rise of the combustion engine in the last century has accelerated the pollutant rate in the atmosphere exponentially. Added to the crap already there from coal and oil burning prior to the engine and it's a big mess. You cannot argue that. You probably think you can pee in the bathtub, too, and it doesn't matter, don't you?
Sarahbot Palin is daytime television.
To the self described American Patriot, I believe the treatment of the VP candidates has something to do with the differences between the candidates themselves. Palin has become more of a "rock star" than Biden and gets more attention but let's face it, on a "meet with the media since named running mate per capita basis", Palin invites more scrutiny than Biden and has made more gaffes. Case in point: A few weeks ago when that count totaled 3 for Palin, Biden had met 82 times with some form of media. (small market, large market,
national and network) They have each made many public appearances of course, and at those is where Biden has gotten himself in more trouble than Palin. And that's because Biden goes off the script more often than Palin.
