In California there are 177 different jobs that require a license.
In Missouri, there are 41. The Show-Me State is dead last in the 50-state rankings.
Reason has the story. Supporters say licensure is required to keep people safe. Or is it just a way for states to suck money from people in certain professions? You tell us.

States. Suck. Money.
I skimmed through Reason's white paper - fifty some-odd pages worth - and it seemed that most of the paper was devoted to the argument that the licensing was an impediment to the free market. Standard libertarian the market is god argument.
I'll admit that having to have a license for manure-spreader initially gave me raised eyebrows but I think it would be better to examine the original rationale for some of the licensing requirements instead of a wholesale condemnation of the process.
Beats the government-is-god argument.
Beats the government-is-god argument.
Yeah, those theocracy this is a Christian nation freaks bother me too.
a little of both. remember that birth certificates are required to renew a drivers license. That is 10-15$ per person to each county health unit.
Not what I meant, 1:57... the government-is-god argument has nothing to do with religion, unless you want to call it the Church of Statism.
